Free UTM Link Generator: The Analytics Standard
"Half the money I spend on advertising is wasted; the trouble is I don't know which half." — This famous quote is obsolete thanks to UTM parameters.
Urchin Tracking Module (UTM) codes are simple text snippets added to the end of your URLs. They tell Google Analytics (and other tools) exactly where your traffic is coming from. Our Free UTM Generator helps you build these links correctly, ensuring your campaign data is pristine.
Whether you are running Facebook Ads, sending an Email Newsletter, or working with Influencers, tagging your links is non-negotiable for Return on Ad Spend (ROAS) calculation.
The 5 Pillars of UTM Tracking
Understanding the hierarchy of UTMs is key to clean data.
utm_source (Required)
The "Who". The referrer: google, newsletter, facebook, billboard.
utm_medium (Required)
The "How". Marketing medium: cpc, banner, email, organic_social.
utm_campaign
The "What". Product or promo: spring_sale, black_friday_2024.
utm_term
The "Keywords". Used mainly for paid search (Google Ads) to track specific keywords.
utm_content
The "Variable". A/B testing: red_button vs green_button.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Inconsistent Casing: Google Analytics sees `Email` and `email` as two different sources. Always use lowercase.
- Using Spaces: URLs cannot contain spaces. Use underscores (`_`) or plus signs (`+`) instead.
- Tagging Internal Links: NEVER add UTMs to links from your Homepage to your Pricing page. This resets the user session and breaks your data. Only tag *inbound* links.
